Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR)
Many of us find the modern, fast paced world very stressful and challenging. Learning mindfulness techniques can help people manage their thoughts, emotions and even physical pain more effectively.
This programme was formed and developed over 30 years ago by Dr Jon Kabat Zinn, who founded the stress reduction clinic at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. Since then, the course has been developed and tested through clinical trials. It aims to help participants manage stress and pain of a physical, mental or emotional nature through mindfulness meditation and activities. But please note, you do not need a clinical condition to take this course ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â€šÂ¬Ã¢â‚¬Å“ just a will to work with this wonderful practice to help you mange the stresses and strains of daily life.
Many participants report how the course has helped them manage stressful situations and relationships, live more presently and with more confidence, and improve their ability to relax, often leading to higher energy levels. Some report seeing situations more clearly and that, ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â€šÂ¬Ã‹Å“this is not stress reduction, this is my life!ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â€šÂ¬Ã¢â€žÂ¢
The programme consists of 8 weekly sessions and an optional full day silent retreat. Participants practise the main mindfulness meditations (both sitting and movement based) and complete some activities specifically focusing on stress reduction.
Each participant receives a workbook with some theory, home practice suggestions and space for reflection; also, a CD (or mp3's) of guided meditations unique to this course. These resources aim to make the connection between the weekly sessions and your daily life.
